COFFEE DIRECT FROM THE WILDLIFE OF TANZANIA

Ngila Estate in Karatu, Arusha, Tanzania

Surrounded by elephants, buffalo, bushbuck, and many other wild animals, the coffee at Ngila Estate grows at an altitude of around 1,500–1,700 meters—right next to the Ngorongoro Crater nature reserve. Its immediate proximity to this unique wildlife makes it one of the most fascinating coffee-growing regions we have visited to date.

The first Kent plants were set here over 90 years ago—and they still produce exceptional coffee today. With their now tree-like trunks, they still make up about 60% of the farm. However, after nearly a century, their yields are declining, and they will gradually need to be replaced in the coming years. This Kent Natural therefore comes from plants whose time is slowly coming to an end—all the more reason to enjoy this coffee while these nearly 100-year-old coffee trees still bear fruit.

Packaging = Painting of an elephant

All of Tanzania is known for its impressive wildlife, including lions, elephants, zebras, buffalo, and many other wild animals. It is no coincidence that an elephant adorns the packaging design of our Ngila Estate coffee: a wildlife corridor runs through the farm, which is primarily used by elephants to reach the caves they have carved out there over many years.

We initially had various approaches for the packaging design. However, the direct proximity of this coffee to the wild elephants ultimately made it clear to us that this exact connection belonged on the packaging. In a small shop between the farm and Vincent's village, we then found this oil painting, bought it, photographed it, and put it on the packaging.
